![]() In 1993, Galen's father began questioning Galen if he would like to purchase the family's double century farm. Galen and Sarah had recently settled in the greater Philadelphia area, expanded their family and both were successfully pursuing professional careers. Galen, a mechanical engineer, was responsible for the operation of a German owned custom-grinding tooling company. Sarah was a technical support chemist, advising pharmaceutical companies on liquid drug packaging. Galen's company sent him to Germany on two separate occasions, to work with the leading edge technology of the parent company and Sarah tagged along to discover German culture. Now it just so happened that the firm was located in the rural rolling hills of southern Germany, with the slopes covered in vines. But the winery idea ![]() What's in a name . . . The winery is named after Galen and the natural terrain our property, which is a "V" shaped Glen. Our Tasting Room is located high on one hillside; the wine cellars are tucked into the Glen below and then up the next hillside above the wine cellars are of course, more vines. As a small family winery, we take great pride in using our owner's name as the business name. Additionally, two of our best selling wines, Noah's Blush and Erin's Auslese are named after Sarah and Galen's children. Not to worry, son Calvin will have a wine named after him too! ![]() Our signature crooked stick began life as a cherry sapling, only to be chopped down on grape planting day by Galen. It was used as a measuring instrument to space the first vines planted when sufficient tape measures were not available. Consequently, parallel meandering rows were formed vine by vine in our hilltop vineyard. Every autumn, high quality fruit is hand harvested from these 'crooked' vines and fermented into our boutique wines. You will see that crooked stick everywhere, from the labels on our wine bottles, embedded in the flagstone and proudly displayed on our web site. The uniqueness of our logo and story has resulted in international acclaim. However, to the owners and dedicated staff of Galen Glen, it serves as a reminder of the Vineyard's humble beginnings and how a 'can do' attitude makes anything possible. Our friendly staff . . . When visiting the winery, we look forward to making your experience both enjoyable and educational. Our staff on the wine bar is much more than just ![]() Galen Glen Vineyard & Winery 570.386.3682 Friday: 12 PM - 5 PM Saturday: 10 AM - 5 PM Sunday: 12 PM - 5 PM Our winery hours are expanded during November and December.
